Sungrow Battery Prices in Australia 2026: SBR and SBH, After the Rebate
A Sungrow battery costs roughly $5,800 to $11,300 after the federal rebate across the mainstream SBR range, or about $440 to $600 per usable kWh. The popular SBR160 (16 kWh) lands near $7,700 installed after rebate. The higher-voltage SBH line, for larger and three-phase homes, runs from about $8,400 after rebate at 20 kWh. These figures assume a compatible Sungrow hybrid inverter is part of the job, which is the single biggest thing that moves your price.

Sungrow SBR prices by size (2026)
The SBR (Scalable Battery Rack) stacks 3.2 kWh LFP modules. Indicative installed prices, assuming a Sungrow hybrid inverter is present or included in a combined solar install:
| Configuration | Installed (before rebate) | Federal rebate | After rebate | After-rebate $/kWh |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SBR96 (9.6 kWh) | ~$8,200 | ~$2,400 | ~$5,800 | ~$604 |
| SBR128 (12.8 kWh) | ~$9,800 | ~$3,200 | ~$6,600 | ~$516 |
| SBR160 (16 kWh) | ~$11,500 | ~$3,800 | ~$7,700 | ~$481 |
| SBR256 (25.6 kWh) | ~$16,500 | ~$5,200 | ~$11,300 | ~$441 |
Sungrow SBH prices by size (2026)
The SBH is the higher-voltage line, with more output for larger and three-phase homes. Sungrow's SBH model naming has shifted, so confirm the exact configuration on the current Australian datasheet with your installer. Indicative installed prices:
| Configuration | Installed (before rebate) | Federal rebate | After rebate | After-rebate $/kWh |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SBH ~20 kWh | ~$12,800 | ~$4,400 | ~$8,400 | ~$420 |
| SBH ~30 kWh | ~$18,000 | ~$5,900 | ~$12,100 | ~$405 |
| SBH ~40 kWh | ~$22,600 | ~$6,050 | ~$16,550 | ~$415 |
Notice the after-rebate cost per kWh keeps falling as capacity rises, until the federal rebate stops adding much past 28 kWh (it tapers above the first 14 kWh). For most homes the SBR160 is the value sweet spot; the SBH earns its place when you genuinely need 20 kWh or more, or three-phase output.
The inverter is the biggest price variable
Sungrow batteries are DC-coupled and only pair with a Sungrow SH-series hybrid inverter. That single fact drives your real price:
- Installing solar and battery together, or already on a Sungrow inverter: the prices above hold, and Sungrow is excellent value.
- Adding to an existing non-Sungrow inverter (Fronius, SolarEdge, Enphase): add roughly $2,500 to $3,500 to swap the inverter. At that point a flexible battery like the BYD HVM, which works with many inverter brands, is often the better buy.
Our best batteries for a Sungrow inverter guide covers the compatible pairings.
What else changes your price
- SBR vs SBH. The SBH costs more in absolute terms but can be cheaper per kWh at large capacities.
- Backup wiring. Configuring whole-home or essential-circuit backup adds labour at install.
- Location and network. Labour rates and your distributor's export rules affect both price and what the system may do.
- Switchboard work. Older switchboards may need upgrading, adding a few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars.
The federal rebate on a Sungrow
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program discounts the installed price at the point of sale. As of 2026 it is worth about $250 per usable kWh on the first 14 kWh, tapering above that (roughly $150/kWh from 14 to 28 kWh, and $38/kWh from 28 to 50 kWh), after the rate stepped down on 1 May 2026. On an SBR160 that is about $3,800 off. Check what your state stacks on top with our rebate checker.
How Sungrow compares on price
On post-rebate cost per usable kWh, Sungrow is among the best value from a major brand, typically $1,500 to $2,500 under a Tesla Powerwall 3 for similar capacity and comfortably below premium names. The catch is always the inverter requirement. For the full field, see our solar battery cost guide and the best home battery guide.
How to get an accurate Sungrow quote
Ask for an itemised quote that separates the battery modules, the hybrid inverter and installation, and confirm whether the inverter is included or assumed. If you already run a Sungrow inverter, say so, because it removes the biggest cost and should be reflected in your price.
